Haunted Mansion Candy Popcorn

Haunted Mansion Candy Popcorn

This is so cute. Love the colors and packaging.  I didn’t ask about what flavors they used since I was only taking a photo. Because it is blue, I am guessing maybe blue raspberry or grape? I’m not sure if they have this all year round, this is something I saw when at Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

I love anything Haunted Mansion themed. Just an FYI for anyone who also loves the Haunted Mansion, there is some great merchandise in the Memento Mori Shop which is right outside the ride. (Used to be the Smucker’s Jelly Store).

MNSSHP 2015 Candy

This is our official 2015 candy haul for the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge. This is a queen size bed, the towel roughly reaches across the width of the bed.  When we got home we weighed it, and it was 16.8 lbs.

Last year, we had trick or treated a lot too, maybe more I guess, and got 18.3 lbs. We surely thought we had more candy than last year! It felt substantially heavy.

What do you do with all this candy you ask? We eat some and mostly give it to friends and family. There is no way we can eat that much candy. It’s just fun to collect candy, as an adult we don’t get to trick or treat anymore in the “real world”, so going to the MNSSHP is fun for me.

The candy is pretty much exactly the same as last year, the only notable difference I found was that Werther’s had provided a coffee flavored hard candy that was AMAZING. It tastes just like tiramisu to me, very satisfying, lots of flavor and lasts for at least 5-10 minutes. I love it, I’ll definitely buy some of them from the grocery store.

Oh, and the Poison Candy Apple Stein is so cool, the white part glows in the dark. They are available for purchase at the party.

Torrone

Torrone

I never had torrone before in my life, not until last year when I saw it at the Italian market and tried it. The La Florentine Torrone was the first kind I ever bought, and I still think it’s the best, or should I say, my personal favorite.

If you have never tried torrone, it’s like a fluffy and chewy nougat, it can have other things it in like almonds, pistachios, or in this case hazelnuts. There are a variety of kinds, so be sure to read the labels.  A lot of them are NOT covered in chocolate, this one is and it is amazing. I highly recommend getting the chocolate covered one to try first.  Label says it’s all natural with no preservatives. I absolutely love this stuff.

This bar of La Florentine Torrone cost $5.79 plus tax. It says it is 4 servings. Definitely worth the cost of admission as they say. You’d easily pay that or more for a restaurant dessert on a night out.

Trying Some British Candy

Jelly Babies & Lion Bars

Jelly Babies & Lion Bars

If you ever watch the older Dr. Who episodes with Tom Baker, you will probably remember him asking people if they want a “Jelly Baby”, which he carried around in his pockets. When I was at the grocery store I saw this bag of Tavener’s Jelly Babies and had to buy a bag so I could finally try them, I’ve always been curious about them since watching Dr. Who.

Also, I’ve seen Lion Bars in a comedy sketch on That Mitchell and Webb Look, so I grabbed a couple of those as well.  They also have Nestle Lion bars at Epcot in the UK pavilion, but I can’t see paying somewhere in the $3 range per candy bar.  Publix had them for about $1.50 each.

So, we tried these candies and I have to say the Lion bars are a real winner, can’t go wrong with chocolate, rice krispies, caramel, and cookie; kinda like a Twix and a Nestle crunch had a baby. Definitely would buy them again.

The Jelly Babies were a little strange, they were gummy-like, opaque, with a thicker sugar coating almost grainy, reminded me of a harder drier Chuckles type candy. There are different flavors in the bag, I couldn’t get used to the consistency. They are also really sweet, just two or three is enough.  I am a fan of regular Haribo Gummis, but these were different and unique from anything I’ve tried before. But, still glad I got to try them!
