Introduced early this year, the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Trading Card Game is a new and fun way for guests to experience the magic of Disney. Each guest can obtain playing cards at select locations in Magic Kingdom. The main location to get new cards is at the Firehouse, adjacent to City Hall right off of Main Street USA. Another location is between the Liberty Tree Tavern and the Christmas gift shop. You will need your theme park ticket to get started. They will give you a key card and map, a 5 pack of new spell cards, and some one on one training on how to use the key portals. Each day you can get a 5 pack of trading cards with your valid theme park admission. For those of you with annual passes or seasonal passes, you will just use that when you get your cards. Be aware that the trading card locations will close one hour prior to the park closing time, for example if the Magic Kingdom closes at 10 pm, they will close the trading card location at 9 pm on the dot.
The game is focused on defeating the Disney villains who are trying to steal a piece of Merlin’s shattered crystal ball, the adventure will begin in one of several lands: Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, or Main Street, U.S.A. Step by step you will battle the villains all around the Magic Kingdom. You will use your spell cards to defeat your foes by holding up your card during battle and casting your spells. When you are successful in your mission, you can continue the adventure and continue to battle the villains and level up in the game.
It’s a great way to breathe new life into the Magic Kingdom, especially for Florida Residents, Annual Passholders, and DVC members who come to the Magic Kingdom often. The game is fun and entertaining. The interactive nature of the game, coupled with the animated features and storylines are appealing to all ages. Something I like about it is the thrill of the chase, darting off here and there around the park doing our own thing and getting some exercise. It’s especially fun during extra magic hours, the park is usually less crowded and there is little or no lines for the game portals.
And best of all, it is FREE. There is no additional cost to play the game. If you are visiting the Magic Kingdom and have your valid theme park admission, head on over to the Firehouse and they will get you started and set you off on your adventure. Your booster pack of 5 cards is also free when you come back daily with your valid theme park admission ticket. There are currently 70 unique trading cards in the first set, each featuring a Disney character with their special abilities. Great for collecting or for trading, and definitely fun for the whole family.
Update: There is a now home version of the game for sale at Magic Kingdom, which includes a booster set of 7 cards (one very rare spell card included).
