Looking for something fun to do with the whole family? How about dinner and a show! The Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue has been a long-standing tradition at Walt Disney World which started November 19th, 1971. The show takes place in Pioneer Hall, part of the frontier settlement of the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. It’s theme is the Wild West, think Davy Crockett, pioneers, buffalo and good old-fashioned fun.
Let them wine and dine you on all-you-care-to eat home style fare, while you are entertained by their slapstick and jokes, singing and dancing, banjo and piano playing. The characters are entertaining, they also like to interact with guests which is part of the show.
The menu consists of cornbread, salad, mashed potatoes, cowboy beans, sweet corn, BUCKETS of fried chicken and bar-b-que ribs, and best of all…strawberry shortcake (the best ever). It’s all you can eat, so pace yourself, the whole dining experience takes about 2 hours. There is a selection of house wine (served in a small mason jar!!) and draft beer that is included, all soft drinks – including chocolate milk – is also included in the set price. The dinner show price includes tax and gratuity as well. Although it is pricey, ranging from $55-65 per adult depending on the season and seating category (1, 2, 3), it is something that many people highly recommend. I look forward to going again, hopefully next time we will have friends and family with us, I think it would be better enjoyed as a group. It’s one of those classic things that would make a wonderful family memory or family tradition.
This show must be reserved in advance, the tickets must be purchased in advance as well, your tickets can be picked up at the box office prior to the show. This is another instance where having the Table in Wonderland card came in very handy, saving 20% off our ticket price (dinner for two came in just under $100 instead of $120 because this dinner show includes tax and gratuity the TIW card takes off 20% and still includes the tax and gratuity). The only caveat being that the discounted show may vary with the season, during some parts of the year the earlier show might qualify for TiW discount, some months it may be the later showing, be sure to check when you are booking.
There are some details that are important which they will tell you about when you book your dinner show. There is a two-day cancellation policy. You must pick up your tickets 40 minutes before the show starts, and check-in at the podium (a barrel) 30 minutes prior to the show, at that time they will take a souvenir photo of your party that will be offered to you in a photo package for an additional $32 or so, they will come to your table and ask if you would like to purchase the photo package.
If you are looking to try the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue but aren’t sure if you will like it, I recommend buying the category 3 seats, they are cheaper and if Pioneer Hall is not fully booked, they will upgrade you to better seating accordingly. That’s what we did and on the night we went and the show wasn’t even half full. Guess where they put us? Front and Center!
For those of you on the Disney Dining Plan, Hoop Dee Doo will cost you 2 TS credits per person, and only certains shows and seating categories are available. When on the Dining Plan, you should try to get the best seats (Category 1 or 2) with your credits. This show has gratuity included, so you will not have to tip.
While you are at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground take a look around the settlement area, take a walk down to the lake, you can also book a carriage ride or wagon ride. You can view the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach, as well as the water parade (light up musical floats) nightly.
